Romagnat
Romagnat is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area of Auvergne. Romagnat belongs to the urban surface of Clermont-Ferrand.
History
The name of this city encourages to find an origin bound at the time Gallo-Roman to him. One of the assumptions most often advanced is that according to which it would have to be seen in the Latin sentence " Romanii hac Obiere and Perignum" , that one can translate roughly by " the Romans perished ici".The XIe century sees Romagnat undertaking its first fortifications which must ensure the safety of the inhabitants. In addition to a ditch and thick ramparts, eight turns keep the entries of the city. There remains today only the Tower of Terrail, vis-a-vis the Post office.
During all the Middle Ages, the current street of November Eleven was the crossing point of the pilgrims for Saint-Jacques-with-Compostelle and Romagnat a probable place of stage.
In 1631, the Peste makes devastations in our city.
In March 1789, Romagnat and Opme, distinct parishes at the time, write two registers of grievances which are preserved at the Departmental records. March 22nd, 1789, the Baron Emmanuel d' Aubier of Monteilhe, lord of Saulzet, is indicated rapporteur of the Commission named to examine the important matter of the equality of all in front of the tax.
The major event of the Second Empire is without question the visit of Napoleon III with Gergovie (at the time called Merdogne) and with Romagnat. It generates a great agitation within our commune, as the report to it to the Municipal council dated June 26th testifies 1862 (register in Town hall).
In August 1910, for the employers' festival, electricity shines on Romagnat.
In 1940-1941, the General of Lattre de Tassigny remains in the village close to Opme.
In 1959 construction begins from the city of Bezance. It is the departure of the demographic and urban expansion. Romagnat takes its character of residential suburbs of Clermont-Ferrand, while Saulzet and Opme preserve a long time still their agricultural aspect of semi-mountain.
In 1961, the commune buys to the Baron de Tocqueville the castle of Bezance to make the Town hall of it.

Districts

The gazelle is a district of dwelling where are located the vocational school and an elementary school.
Many trade are installed place of freedom in center town.
One finds in the district pérouses the gendarmerie, a sports complex (gymnasium, football field and tennis). It is before a whole district of dwelling.
