Roller in line hockey

The roller in line hockey (also called RILH , inline hockey or roller hockey ) is one of the disciplines of Hockey in roller skate. It is practiced with shoes with the wheels alignées.
At the French level, it is most recent of the disciplines of the French federation of Roller Skating (FR) where it has a national committee. She is recognized high level discipline by the Ministry for the Sports.

The goal is to put the metal disc in the cage of the adversaries. It is a sport physical, strategic and collective but, unlike the Hockey, the loads are prohibited.

Origin

In North America, the Hockey, very popular, was probably played on the cold lakes in winter, at the beginning of the 20th century. The vagueness of the roller of the years 1990 undoubtedly gave the idea to impassioned hockey to create a sport making it possible to play without need for skating rink. The sport arrives to France at the time of the first open one of France of Street-hockey, organized by the Federation in 1993. 50 clubs are create and affiliated to the Federation which thus decides to create, in 1995, a championship of France.

Material

The Crosse consists of a handle finished by a curved, broader part and more punt. The stick is made up either of wood, or of carbon, or of aluminum, or of plastic…

The Palet is a cylinder of approximately 2,5 cm in height and 7,62 centimetres diameter, slightly rebounded in its center or provided with pastilles of bearing. The good metal discs are manufactured so as to remain always lying on the ground and not to roll on their section.

The rollers of hockey do not have a brake. The metal turntable is short and accommodates 4 wheels with the round profile. The wheels are sometimes of different sizes (aft wheels of largeer diameter than the nose gear wheels, with 2 or 3 diameters of wheels by shoes), or then the shoe is slightly tilted. Such a configuration which combines resistance, rigidity and handiness allows abrupt changes of management and brutal stops. The ankle boot is hard in order to protect from the blows of stick, the metal disc and to ensure a good maintenance of ankle. The rollers of guard can have 5 wheels, smaller and harder, for a better stability upright and a setting on the fast ground for the stops, particularly of " type; papillon".

The various protection measures are essential in order to be protected from the involuntary blows of sticks, the shootings of metal disc and the falls.

The equipment of the players is made up:

  • of the leggings (obligatory) which protect the top of the foot to the knee included. They protect from the blows of stick, the jets of metal discs and the falls.
  • a shell which protects primarily from the metal disc and the sticks (obligatory for the men only).
  • of the gloves (obligatory) which have a broad opening to make it possible to fold the wrist. The inch must contain a rigid stem to protect from the falls.
  • a helmet (obligatory) with a grid, a visor or nothing.
  • of the coudières (obligatory) who protect from the falls and the blows of stick.
  • breeches (optional) which protect the coccyx, the thighs and the hips.
  • one protects teeth (optional but recommended if the helmet has neither integral visor nor grid).

The equipment of the guard is made up:

  • of the boots
  • of breeches protecting the thighs, the buttocks, the coccyx and the hips
  • of a drill plate protecting the belly, the chest and the arms
  • of a mask
  • of a mitten which is a leather glove having a " poche" to catch the metal disc in the air or to block it on the ground.
  • of a shield which is a leather glove protected by a rigid rectangular plate, allowing to hold the stick.
  • of a stick which is shorter than those of the players and the lower half is broader (width of the metal disc)

The behaviors are made up of long pants and a shirt with long sleeves. The number of the player must there be registered and be ranging between 00 and 99. All protections must be placed under the behavior, except for the helmet, of the gloves and the boots of the guard.

Ground

  • dimensions of a ground of Roller In Line Hockey vary between 40 X 20m and 60 X 30m (but always respect ratio 1/2).
  • the angles of the ground must be rounded (3m being the ideal).
  • the ground must comprise markings in conformity.
  • the cages must be rectangular, out of steel, an internal height of 105 cm, of an internal width of 170 cm and sharp red color.
  • the ground is surrounded by balustrades of 1,06m.
  • the ground can have a coating especially studied for Roller In line Hockey (Stilmat, Pulastic BOFLEX 1000), which will make it possible the polyurethane wheels to adhere perfectly, and to carry out strong accelerations.
  • the ground must be rigid and smoothest possible to obtain good slips of the metal disc (weighing from 100 to 120 G and being able to exceed the speed of 150 km/h during the powerful shootings).

In France, the grounds are on average about 40 X 20m and are often divided within general sports rooms. In fact one finds few “perfect” surfaces, but of the grounds covered with resin of the Taraflex type, of the parquet floor, or of the concrete paints very smooth. These surfaces are very adherent all the same and the metal disc can slip quickly.

Rules

With each match, two referees must be present on the ground. They must ensure the protection of the players while making comply with the rules.

In France, contrary to the hockey, there is no off-side. On the other hand the off-side exists in certain countries like Belgium. The body burdens are prohibited, contrary to the hockey. A player or the stick of an unfavourable player cannot be present in the zone of the goal without the metal disc.

It is about a collective sport of slips, very fast, being played with a metal disc, opposing two teams of 5 players present at the same time on the ground (1 goalkeeper and 4 players of fields). A team can include/understand on the whole 16 players (14 players and 2 guards) being able to be replaced constantly. The match includes/understands, as a Senior (national divisions) 2 25 minutes periods effective, with one 10 minutes half-time.

The goal has a particular status. Indeed, if it makes a fault it cannot be directly sanctioned by an exclusion. A player of the team will be excluded in his place. According to the gravity of the fault, exclusion will be more or less long. The excluded player will have to then put himself beside the ground and will be able to return, once passed time, at the time of the next stop of play.

Exclusions are classified in various categories:

  • minor (2 min of prison): three minor penalties of the same player at the time of the same match involve an additional penalty of 10 minutes méconduite.
  • major (5 min of prison): two major penalties of the same player at the time of the same match involve 5 minutes a major penalty of another player of the team and a penalty of méconduite for the player concerned for the match.
  • of méconduite (10 min of prison)
  • of méconduite for the match: the faulty player is excluded from the match and the following, but is replaced by another player.
Two penalties of méconduite of the same player at the time of the same tournament involve a penalty of match.
  • penalty of match: the player is excluded from the match and the remainder of the tournament. Another player of the team will make 5 min prison.

Federations

With the international level, two authorities manage this sport: the IIHF, international federation of hockey and the FIRS, international federation of roller sports. Each one of these federations has its own payment, organizes its own championships of the world and is recognized by certain countries but not others. In general, the countries where the hockey is particularly developed (like Sweden or Russia) recognize the IIHF like international authority (and thus do not take part in the championships organized by the FIRS). In France, the French federation of roller-skating, it, is affiliated with the FIRS. In other countries, for example in Belgium, the two federations are present, the grateful clubs one or the other federation.
