Rolf Liebermann

Biography
Formation
He studies the right to the Université of Zurich and the music in academy deprived with Jose Berr (1929-33). He is on the occasion saxophonist in an orchestra of Jazz and sings in cabarets. One also at that time lends to him a connection with Lale Andersen, the German interprête of the famous song Lili Marlene .
With the service of the music of the others
- It improves its direction of orchestra near Hermann Scherchen of which it becomes assisting it with Vienna and Budapest, until 1938.
- In 1940 it works with Vladimir Vogel.
- After the War, he is producer with Radio Zurich (1945-1950), Director artistic of the Orchestra of the Radio German-speaking Switzerland in Zurich (1950-1957), director of this orchestra (1957-1959)
- In 1959, he becomes the intendant with the Opéra of Hamburg. It will leave it in 1972 after having made of it the first lyric scene of the world in the field of creation and the contemporary repertory.
In 1973, Marcel Landowski and Hugues Gall, at the request of Jacques Duhamel, then Minister for the Culture, convince it to take the head of the Réunion of the national opera houses. However, under pretext that only a French can become general administrator, of the RTLN is amended and Rolf Liebermann is only named “administrator of the Opera”. The permanent troop not having been renewed, it attracts the voices, the chiefs and the directors international. The public can thus listen to Teresa Berganza, Plácido Domingo, Ruggero Raimondi.
Rolf Liebermann must face many difficulties, including a Grève the day of the visit of the President Valery Giscard d'Estaing. It enters in conflict with Jean Salusse, chairman of the board, which ends up committing suicide in July 1977. It is also blamed by a report/ratio of the General inspection of finances, organized by Bloch-Woolly François. February 8th, 1978, the Réunion of the national opera houses is dissolved and Rolf Liebermann receives the title of general administrator of the National theater of the Opera of Paris. It remains there until the end of 1980.
During this period were assembled to the Palais Garnier and the Salle Favart, more than fifty different spectacles, with the settings in often innovative scenes and thus disputed. Among the most outstanding spectacles:
- the Marriages of Figaro of Mozart, put in scene by Giorgio Strehler (March 1973),
- Boris Godounov of Moussorgski (June 1980),
- and the world creation of the version in 3 acts of Excentric of Alban Berg under the direction of Pierre Boulez (February 24th, 1979).
- Bohemian the of Puccini put in scene by Gian Carlo Menotti
- the Faust of Gounod put in scene by Jorge Lavelli
- the Tales of Hoffmann of Offenbach put in scene by Patrice Chéreau
- In 1985, it is recalled to the Opera of Hamburg where it remains until 1988.
Type-setter
Its compositions borrow, in an experimental language, with a large variety of styles and techniques, Baroque French with the Dodécaphonisme Viennese. He also composed Chanson S and Light music.- 1947 : he launches out in the composition and makes known himself with his spectacular Furioso for orchestra .
