Roland Ries

Roland Ries is a Politician French, member of the Socialist party, born on January 11th, 1945 with Niederlauterbach (the Low-Rhine).

Formation

Incorporated in modern letters, it was, during many years, teacher with Saint-Avold (the Moselle), then in Sélestat (the Low-Rhine) like in a large college of Strasbourg starting from 1977.

In Strasbourg

City council man since 1983, he is 1st assistant of the mayor of Strasbourg, Catherine Trautmann, between 1989 and 1997, and becomes mayor and president of the Urban community of Strasbourg after the nomination of the latter to the government between 1997 and 2000. Charged then with town planning, transport, and in particular with the file on urban displacements and the transport of the handicapped people, it managed the realization of the first two lines of the tram.

Since 2001, it is become again, in the opposition, city council man and Community.

He announces his candidature for the candidature for the municipal elections of 2008 in Strasbourg within the Socialist party on June 26th, 2007. Roland Ries is since September 2007 member of the committee of patronage of the Forum Carolus, think tank of Strasbourg directed by Henri de Grossouvre.

At the national and international level

The action of Roland Ries was also characterized by the reconciliation of Alsace with its history (Oradour-on-Glane, Tambov, regional language…), it wished to promote the regional identity and bilingualism like means of opening on the other cultures.

President of the transborder operational Mission (WORD) of 1997 with 2001, Roland Ries also chaired the interdepartmental Mission for the European radiation of Strasbourg (TEST CARDS) of 2000 2001, as well as the Groupement of the authorities responsible for transport (GART).

He is named, in 2001, by Lionel Jospin, member of the Economic and Social Council until in 2003.

He also chaired, under the aegis of the General police station of the Plan, a group of dialog on the urban transport, charged with formulating orientations and recommendations on the organization, the modes of regulation and the financing of the urban transport. He returned his report/ratio in 2003 to the Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin.

Consulting in public transport (it took part, with its cabinet, with the installation of the Tram of Clermont-Ferrand after 2001, it was elected senator of the the Low-Rhine on September 26th, 2004 and on February 20th, 2005. Its mandate remained vacant from November 27th, 2004 to February 19th, 2005, following a cancellation of the poll.

With the Senate

He is the author of several texts adopted by the Sénat, of which a resolution about the sensitive topic of creation of funds European of adjustment to the Mondialisation, another on the public services in the urban transport and regional, as well as a law voted unanimously with the Sénat on the promotion of the Autopartage.

Roland Ries is also the author of many reports/ratios of which one, dated June 27th, 2007 relates to the prospects for EADS, others giving a progress report on “the instruments of protection of trade of Europe” or on the concept preferably Community.

July 31st, 2007, he is elected temporary member of the French Delegation to the parliamentary Assemblées of the Council of Europe and the Western European Union
