Roland Pourtier

Roland Pourtier is a French geographer born in 1940, Professor with the Université of Paris I - the Pantheon Sorbonne. Member of the UMR Prodig (CNRS, Universités of Paris 1, Paris 4 and Paris 7) of which he exerted the vice-presidency between 1998 and 2004. Consulting near the Initiative for Central Africa (INICA) with OECD. President of the Association of the French Geographers (AGF) since 2002. Member of the editorial boards of the Yearly of geography , the Bulletin of the Association of the French Geographers , the reviews contemporary Africa and Geography and cultures . Former president of the Center population and development (INED - IRD-University Paris 5). Former member of the Laboratory of sociology and African geography of the Center of African studies and the Research center African between 1980 and 2000. Former director of the DEA tropical Worlds (Universities of Paris 1 and Paris 4).

Former student of the National university, aggregate in 1964, it supported his thesis of Doctorat of third cycle in 1969 on the littoral areas of the Kampuchea framed by Pierre Gourou. He supported his doctorate of arts state and Social sciences in 1984 on the Gabon, organization of space and formation of the State . Lecturer with the National university of Gabon and director of the department of geography between 1970 and 1975. Responsible for seminars of intercultural management for Elf-Gabon between 1991 and 1995. He teaches today the tropical geography, the geography of Africa and the geography of the development at the Institute of geography of Paris and the French Institut of geopolitics. Its research carries mainly on the central Africa, the basin of the Congo, the area of the Big lakes and on the questions of political instability, violence, crises and changes in progress in these spaces.
