Rohinton Mistry

Rohinton Mistry (Bombay, July 3rd 1952 -) is a Canadian author.

Born in India, Mistry immigrates in Canada in 1975. While continuing its studies with the University of Toronto, it composes of the news and gains its first literary prizes (Binder House and Contributor' S Prize 1985 of the Canadian Fiction Magazine ).

Two years later, Penguin Books Canada publishes its collection of news Tales from Firozsha Baag .

With the publication of its first novel, if long voyage , in 1991, it gains the Governor General' S Award , the the Commonwealth Writers Prize of the best book, and the price W.H. Smith of the first best Canadian novel. The novel was also among nominated Booker Prize and Trillium Award . Translated into many languages, it is the subject of a film adaptation.

The following novel of Rohinton Mistry, the balance of the world gains in 1995 the Giller Prize . Its last book, a simple business of family received the Kiriyama Prize for 2002 and is nominated for the Booker Prize of the same year.

In 2002, Mistry cancels the promotional tour of its last book to the the United States of America because his wife and itself were the object of permanent annoyance on behalf of security agents in each airport because of her “means-Eastern” appearance. Mistry tells that during the first flight of this round, one declared to him that it had been randomly selected to be the subject of a special security check.
