Geography

Rogliano is a commune located at the north-eastern point of the Corsican Cape. It is crossed by the D80 road which carry out to and Meria, communes bordering in the south, and climbs towards Ersa in the west. The hamlets of Piedmont are also served by RD  353 and of the communal ways. Rogliano was born from the regrouping of the commune of San Colombano (current southernmost part) and of that of Chjapella (third septentrional).

Its territory is built in the southern part, on the slopes of Assembles di U Castellu (603  m), while the northern half, around Cima di has Campana (245  m), is covered with some wood and a flowered maquis. The coastguard path (of Rogliano with Centuri) follows bay of Tamarone, of Macinaghju with Santa-Maria, along the Tyrrhenian Sea, then is prolonged along bay of Capandula until Punta d' Agnellu, in the Mer Ligurienne, and finally to Acqua Tignese, brook which marks the communal limit with Ersa. The shredded littoral is intersected with sand beaches: Tamarone, Fixed Genovese, Cala Francese and Capandola. The three islands of Finocchiarola, in extreme cases septentrional of bay of Tamarone, right before the wearing of Santa-Maria, constitute a natural reserve of 3  ha, rich in birds and marked by a microclimate of Asphodel S, Leek X and Fennel S savages. Their name is besides drawn from Corsican finochju , fennel.

Inheritance and monuments

Macinaghju , the marine of Rogliano, perpetuates its maritime tradition with its marina of 600  rings. It is built on the old trade and fishing port, which was one of the most active Corsican ports at the 19th century. It was also the place of many historical unloadings. At the House of the Port the lucky finds of the archeological sites are deposited.

The hamlets of Piedmont de Rogliano are grouped in broad steps with mountainside. At the 18th century and the 19th century high houses were built there, but some of them go up until the 15th century. The lanes are sometimes intersected with staircases and arched passages. At the end of the 19th century, many Roglianais, of return to the country after having made fortune in America, built immensent manors, known as Maisons of the Americans . Fourteen families of Roglianu are remained with Puerto Rico, where the Corsicans form a strong minority, to 85% capcorsine. The old mills of Coscia, which dominated the village, are today the site of a television relay station. Many and often splendid family burials are built along the roads between the parish and the cemetery.

The old Saint-François convent, gone back to 1520, was restored at the 18th century, but its church is ruined. In the west of the beach of Tamarone, the Holy-Restitude vault was built on an old sanctuary. Chjapella, Sainte-Marie vault, Romance building of the 11th century, were rebuilt at the 16th century, a little in withdrawal.

From 1249, Rogliano was the chief town of the most important stronghold génois of the Corsica Cape, that of the Da Mare of San Colombano, until in 1523, date on which it passes by marriage to the family Negroni. Augustin Doria seized the stronghold in 1592 and placed the Corsica Cape under direct supervision of the administration génoise.
