Roger Planchon , born the September 12th 1931 with Saint-Chamond (the Loire), is a Dramaturge, Director, and Cinéaste French.
Roger Planchon begins on scene in 1949 after having gained a contest of Théâtre Amateur. In 1952, it creates the Théâtre of the Comedy.
Director of Theater of City of Villeurbanne since 1957 (theater which becomes in 1972 the popular National theater), it is an important figure of theatrical decentralization.
Roger Planchon put in scene Brecht, Molière, Shakespeare, of creations of contemporary authors, Arthur Adamov to Michel Vinaver, but also opened the NPT with Patrice Chéreau, then in Georges Lavaudant.

Planchon takes of it the direction, which it shares with Robert Gilbert and Patrice Chéreau. Then with Georges Lavaudant, as from 1981. It adapts popular works and directs the NPT until 1981.
