Roger Hodgson ( Charles Roger Pomfret Hodgson ) is a British musician , former member of the group Supertramp. It was born the March 21st 1950 with Portsmouth.
Biography
Roger Hodgson early develops his creative side, multi-instrumentalist, it gives its first concert in his school to the 12 years age.At 19 years it records its first individual Mr. Boyd on which one finds inter alia Elton John as musician.
This same year, his/her Jill mother encourages it to try her chance with hearing " Genuine Opportunity" organized by Rick Davies.
Roger had already met Rick within the " group; With joint".
During this hearing Roger interprets with the guitar Dear Mr. Fantasy of Traffic ( Dear Mr. Fantasy left on the album Mr. Fantasy Traffic in 1967). Rick Davies finds in the voice of Roger all that he seeks to form the group of which he dreams. Together they will launch Supertramp until its apogee in 1983. This Roger year decides to leave the group. In an interview he will say that the spirit even group had somewhat disappeared and that he was not also any more alive, creative and vibrating.
In 1984, one year only after the end of the adventure Supertramp, it leaves its first album solo In the eye off the storm . The album is recorded in California where he saw then, arrangements will be done with New York. The album is a success, success is with go.
In October 1987, it leaves its second album Hai! Hai! . It is a failure for a disc of which it signed the entirety of the songs (three musicians of the group Toto took part in its recording).
After one period when Roger will take time to deal with his family (it has 2 children), one off finds it in the spectacle “Night the proms” in 1991 and 1995 where he interprets The logical song and Give has little bit .
Meanwhile, in 1994, it will have taken part in the album " Talk" group Yes.
Lastly, 10 years after its failure, Rites off passage (1997) leaves, its third album solo. It is an album live , which it records with Nevada City with his Andrew son and John Helliwell, the saxophonist of Supertramp.
In 1998, it carries out the longest round that an artist solo ever realized. It is the return of Roger Hodgson on the front of the international scene of the alternative Rock. In 1999, at the sides of Tri Yann, Didier Lockwood, daN Ar Braz inter alia, Roger occurs on the album Excalibur , album made up of songs of Celtic inspiration written by Alan Simon. He interprets two songs: The elements and The will off God . Roger also takes part in some dates of representation of the troop.
Its fourth album Open the door leaves in May 2000, resolutely more pop, where one finds the sound of Supertramp. A round is followed from there which will pass by the Olympia to Paris (Some month before, it had occurred in Bataclan alone on scene and in acoustics). One year after Roger Hodgson takes part in “Night Of The Proms” edition 2001 in company of Simple Minds and Michel Fugain inter alia. In July, it occurs in another festival, the " All Star Band Tour" ex-Beatle Ringo Starr. It will follow the round by interpreting three successes of Supertramp: " The Logical Song" , " Take The Long Way Home" and " Give has Little Bit". After one holiday period, Roger occurs 3 times in September 2002 in California and at the Canada. In 2004 it réengistre Give has Little Bit for the victims of the Tsunami.
