Roger Frey

Roger Frey is a man Politique French, born the June 11th 1913 with Noumea (New Caledonia) and deceased the September 13rd 1997. He was Minister of Interior Department and president of the Constitutional council.
Youths
His/her father, François Frey, were general inspector of the Le Nickel company. Roger Frey attends the college Stanislas. From 1936 to 1939, it directs the family businesses of Nickel to New Caledonia. IN 1940, it engages in the free France, with the battalion of the Pacific, and makes a brilliant war. It is found operations manager near MacArthur, soldier in the campaigns of Germany and Austria, on mission in China near Mao-Tsé-Tung and of Cabbage-in-Lay.
Political career
In 1947, it adheres to RPF, belonged to the management committee of the movement gaullist and in 1951 becomes about it the treasurer. It sits at the Assemblée of the French Union as of 1952. He is general secretary of the Social republicans in 1955. Near to Jacques Soustelle, it is activated at the time of the Crise of May 1958 to prepare the return of De Gaulle to the capacity. It is named member of the constitutional advisory committee.He is general secretary of UNR of 1958 to 1959, and attached to the cabinet of Jacques Soustelle, then Minister for information. He is Minister for the Information of February 5th 1960 at May 6th 1961 in the Gouvernement Michel Debré before being named Minister of Interior Department of May 1961 until April 1st 1967 (cabinets Debré and Georges Pompidou). He had to fight against the activities of OAS at the end of the war of Algérie.
He violently represses a demonstration of Algerians the October 17th 1961, during which several tens of Algerians are killed and thrown in the Seine. The left criticizes its action at the time of the demonstration to the subway Charonne in 1962.
The removal of Mehdi Ben Barka by Moroccan police officers takes place in 1965 whereas it is Beauvau place.
In the government Pompidou (4), he is minister of state in charge of the relations with the Parliament as of on April 6th 1967 until May 31st 1968. He occupies the same function in the government Maurice Couve of Murville of July 10th 1968 at June 20th 1969 and in the ministry Jacques Chaban-Delmas as of on June 20th 1969, then he is minister of state in charge of the administrative reforms of January 7th 1971 at July 5th 1972.
Appointed Paris as of 1962, it is indeed parliamentary only starting from March 11th 1973 and chairs the group UDR of the National Assembly during one year.
Of February 23rd 1974 at February 21st 1983, he is president of the Constitutional council whose competences are increased under the presidency of Valery Giscard d'Estaing. This council must also examine the constitutionality of the nationalizations decided by the left.
Fine policy but character considered secret, Roger Frey was regarded as one of the barons of the gaullism.
Although member of the same cabinet as Andre Malraux, defender of the Abstract art, it preserved his independence of mind out of cultural matter and supported painters such as Maurice Boitel.
