Roger Doucet

Roger Doucet (April 21st 1919 with Montreal with the Quebec (Canada) - July 19th 1981) is a Ténor Québécois.

He was small cantor with the church of the Immaculate-Design of Montreal under the direction of Emile Fontaine, who taught his first musical concepts to him at the school Saint-François-Xavier (1929 - 1933). He made then vocal studies with Céline Marier and Georges Toupin (1938 - 1940), Sarah Fischer (1940 - 1941) and Albertine Morin-Labrecque (1941 - 1943) while taking part in contests of Amateur S. He thus obtained engagements in several Cabaret S of Montreal of which the blue Pheasant, the Bellevue Casino and Montmartre.

He became then member of Army Show, troop of Divertissement of the Canadian Armée with which he traversed Canada twice and visited several European countries . He left the army with the rank of Sergent. Thanks to the credit of re-establishment of the war veterans, he studied with Alfredo Martino in the New York College off Music (1946 - 1949).

He continued his Carrière with the cabaret and the radio; he belonged to the emissions “Opera house Molson” diffused by SRC. The Television, he played in extracts of opera S presented to “the Hour in the concert” with the SRC, such as the Barber of Seville (count Almaviva), the Fishermen of pearls (Nadir) and Romeo and Juliette (Romeo). With the COC, he interpreted the Duke of Rigoletto (1950), the Prince in The Love for Three Oranges (1959) and Peg wood in the Merry gossips of Windsor de Nicolai at the time of a round (1960).

During a stay in Europe (1955 - 1957), it took part in the Festival of Glyndebourne where it sang in particular in the Count Ory and with several emissions with the radio of BBC of London and of NDR of Hamburg.

Of 1971 to its death, it was the Interprète appointed National anthem Canadian “O Canada” at the time of the televised tournaments of hockey to the Forum of Montreal; it fulfills also this function for the tournaments of Football of the Alouettes of Montreal starting from 1974 and those of the club of Baseball the Expos of Montreal starting from 1977. Its white head and its singular voice were arranged among immortal Forum of Montreal.

Doucet was named member of the Ordre of Canada in 1980.
