Roger Decottignies

Born in 1923 with Fourmies (Northern), Roger Decottignies resulted from a boulonnaise family. After studies with the college of Saint-Omer, it is registered in full world war with the Faculty of Law of Lille and follows the courses by correspondence, because them obstacles to move between Boulogne and Lille. In 1943, at twenty years, Roger Decottignies obtains his license. It enters the gendarmerie, and resigns of them two years later with the rank of candidate. He resumes his studies of right then. The young man obtains very well a doctorate with the mention and a price, and its thesis is published in 1950. The following year, it is received with the aggregation of private law.

In 1956, it leaves for the Senegal, and teaches at the school of right of Dakar. “ It set up the legal studies at Senegal ” explained Louis Terraux, president of the Académie of Savoy, where Roger Decottignies had been allowed in 1996. And in December 1970, he is elected president of the Université of Savoy, then an antenna of the University of Grenoble. “ It is him which the impulse gave to the future University of Savoy ”, inaugurated in 1979. “ Decottignies took its pilgrim's staff to convince the Anneciens young people to be registered in Savoy ” continues Louis Terreaux, then senior of the faculty social letter-sciences, which included the right. The idea to make a university common to the both Savoyard departments had not been essential easily. Between 1981 and 1988, Roger Decottignies was the vice-president with the general and teaching affairs. He is also the founder of the ASERJES (association Savoyard for the studies and research out of economic material, legal and social) which connects teaching, student and lawyers. But left with the retirement in 1991, he did not teach with the Faculty of Law created in 1994.

“ It was a man of character. It had the gift of the command. He spoke admirably with a great facility. He imposed some, it was a go-ahead type ” remembers Louis Terreaux. “ It was a whole man, who did not reconsider his decisions easily, but of a intellectual and moral rigor perfect. ”

Without him, we would not be there. ”

In 2003, Mixtures had been offered to him in its honor: a deliver-homage, gathering contributions and articles of research written by his/her colleagues and friendly teacher-researchers. It had been very moved by its gesture. Roger Decottignies died on April 10th, 2005.

Since 2006, the large amphitheater of the presidency of the University of Savoy bears its name.
