Roger Clipping-Rock
Roger Clipping-Rock (born with Paris the February 10th 1906 - died with Chamonix-Mount-White the December 17th 1999) is an explorer and writer French.
Biography
Roger Clipping-Rock is resulting from a Savoyard family originating in Beaufort-on-Doron.
Between 1916 and 1920, it studies with the Lycée Chaptal in Paris.
During the war, it accomplishes several stays with Beaufort which wake up in him the love of the mountain.
In 1923, at 17 years, it settles in Chamonix. As of its arrival, it is very quickly known Chamoniards which call it “Large Whistle” or “Clippings”. He is secretary of the Tourist office and the Olympic committee and carries out his first races with a companion of chance, Daniel Souverain. In 1960, it settles in Chamonix where it builds a country cottage which it baptizes “Derborence”.
Between 1966 and 1969 it undertakes several forwardings in the Canadian Far North like in North America.
In 1981, it publishes its autobiography: “the Slope of the sun”.
It is named “Commander of the Legion of Honor” the August 15th 1992.
It dies out the December 17th 1999 with Chamonix where it is buried.
