Roger Chartier

Roger Chartier , born in 1945, is a historian French attached to the current historiographic of the school of Annals. He works on the history of the book, the edition and the reading.

Biography

Former student of the National university of Saint-Cloud, he is director of studies to the École of the high studies in social sciences (EHESS), professor invited to the Université of Pennsylvania (the United States) and, since December 2006, professor with Written Collège de France for the pulpit the “and cultures in modern Europe”.

He also animates the emission Mondays of the History on France Culture, during which he discusses with historians who publish works on the modern history (16th - 18th century).
