Roger Caillois
Roger Caillois , born the March 3rd 1913 with Rheims and dead the December 21st 1978 with the the Kremlin-Bicêtre, is a writer, Sociologue and Critique arts person French.
Biography
Roger Caillois makes all his secondary studies in Rheims, living during his youth the 75 of the street Hincmar, opposite the house of Roger Gilbert-Lecomte.
Come to Paris in 1929 to prepare the contest of the National university there, it follows a class of hypokhâgne, then from khâgne, with the Louis-the-Large College, and will be received with the street of Ulm in 1933; it will pass its aggregation of grammar there.
Cofounder, with Georges Bataille and Michel Leiris, of the College of sociology, it will make, in 1938, the meeting of the writer and Argentinian patron Victoria Ocampo, which will invite it to remain at her, in Argentine, during the Second world war. He will direct during these years the French Institute of Buenos Aires, and will launch the review the French Letters , to which he will work helped of his first wife, Yvette Caillois born Billod (met in Paris at the time of its years to Louis-the-Large, and mother of their daughter Catherine Caillois), come to join it in Argentina in 1940.
On its return in France, it animates at Gallimard the collection the Cross of the South, specialized in the South American literature, and translated the fantastic news of Jorge Luis Borges. One also finds in this collection the writings of Neruda or Asturias, for example. He was senior official with UNESCO since 1948 (where he occupied the direction of the division of the letters, then cultural development), and was elected with the French Academy in 1971, with the armchair of Jerome Carcopino. Inter alia things, Roger Caillois wondered about the sympathy which appears to reign between the complex shapes of the mineral world and the figures of imaginary human. He wrote the River Alphée and the Writing of the stones , which explore this relation.
Divorced his first wife, Yvette, little time after their return of Buenos-Surfaces, in 1945 (it will become the wife of a comrade normalien, Jean Cottier), he will remariera himself, in 1957, with Alena Vichr (of Czech nationality), met with UNESCO; , on the other hand, it will not have a child.
