Roger Abiut

Roger Tom Abiut is old a president by interim of the République of Vanuatu and former president of the Parliament.

Roger Abiut is member of the workers party of Vanuatu. After its election with the presidency of the Parliament, Abiut had to be used twice as president of the Republic by interim (the Constitution of Vanuatu provides that in the event of vacancy of the presidential capacity, the president of the Parliament must replace the president).

The March 24th 2004, the mandate of the president John Bani comes to a end without no successor being elected. Abiut thus becomes president by interim and this until the election of Alfred Maseng the April 12th. Following the invalidation of the election of Maseng by the Supreme court the May 11th, another poll is organized and while waiting for its exit, Abiut becomes again president of the Republic. With the legislative elections of the July 7th 2004 the workers party loses all its seats and consequently Abiut loses its perch at the time of the first session of the new assembly the July 28th and the presidency by interim is allocated to the new president of the Parliament Josias Moli.
