Rodovia
A car-estrada (with the Portugal) or rodovia (with the Brazil) is an interurban road of transport at high-speed. The traffic of the pedestrians or the cyclists can or not be prohibited.
With the Portugal, the car-estradas traverse quasi all the territory connecting the littoral to the main cities of the interior on about 1800 km. In Brazil, as from 1920, there be a great increase in construction of rodovias and after the creation of DNER, in 1937, it was the development of paving.
The federal roads in Brazil, are called BR-XXX (where XXX are the highway code) and the roads of the States are called AB-XXX (where letters AB represent the symbol of the State and where XX or XXX are the highway code). The car-estradas should not be confused with the expressways. Often the car-estradas and rodovias allow the circulation of pedestrian and bicycles along the public highway and have normal crossings with the other public highways and their principal justification is to provide an interurban access while the way express does not have crossings (but many approach ramps) and are used for the traffic between urban surfaces.
