Rodentia

A rodent is a Animal pertaining to the order of Rodentiens (in Latin Rodentia ), which is Mammifère S Végétarien S or Omnivore S whose characteristic Denture is deprived of Canine S and comprises two Incisive S with continuous growth, cut in bevel and sharp. The rodents have an articulation of their Mâchoire which makes it possible this one to be driven in the vertical direction like the Carnassier S, but also in a movement horizontal of back ahead, suitable to file the hard substances between the Incisive S, and to crush them between the molar S.

The species of rodents were spread in many ecological niches and they are present the terrestrial environments most arid at the mediums Dulcaquicoles. There exist rodents arboricolous, terrestrial, Fouisseurs, amphibians, even sailplanes.

The field vole, the Mulot, the Rat, the Mouse, the Chinchilla, the beaver and the squirrel are examples of rodents. Contrary to a spread idea, the Taupe is not a rodent but a Insectivore. The case of the Hare and the rabbit is more delicate: they have, like the rodents, two strongly developed incisors, but they have of it also another pair, which remains with the state of stub. Moreover, they are exclusively Herbivore S. They belong to another order, that of the Lagomorphes. However, certain classifications turn into to rodents a group including/understanding at the same time Rodentiens and the Lagomorphs.

Largest of the rodents is the Capybara which can be 1,25 m long and 50 cm in height and which can reach 65 kg.

Classification

According to Carleton (1984), there exists more than two thousand alive species classified in thirty families.

Recent classification

Systematic classification is currently put at evil by the genetic studies and that presented thus is perhaps already exceeded!

Five sub-orders are distinguished (instead of two):

Other directions

By extension, the rodent term is employed like Adjectif in connection with something which:
  • attacks, destroys a matter by absorbing it, like Insecte S corroding of the Bois,
  • deteriorates the substance of something or surface recovers some, like the rust,
  • destroys a living organism gradually, like a disease such as the Gangrène.
  • mine little by little on the moral level and which torment, like sorrows, concern, memories.
