Rodenbach (brewery)
History
To go back to the origins of the Rodenbach family, it is necessary for us to go to Andernach, on banks of the the Rhine. With the the Middle Ages the knight " von Rodenbach" there lived in a castle - of which there remain nothing any more but ruins today - some share in the wood of Odenwald in the Grand-duché of Hesse. Rodenbach of Roulers are descendants of this German knight. It is with Roulers, in the middle of the Flanders-Western , that draw up themselves, on banks of the Mandel, the buildings of the Rodenbach brewery, which extend on more than three hectares.
This beer is a true monument of the Belgian brewery inheritance. It is in 1820 that Alexander Rodenbach acquires a small brewery with Roulers. The business, remained in the hands of the same family during decades lost its independence in 1998, date of its repurchase by Palm. For as much, the tradition is respected, the material was mainly preserved and in particular the famous lightnings of oak. One counts 300 of them of which some have been on the spot for more than 150 years! It is in these lightnings that the beer matures during two years and who confers to him his so particular taste like his color. The yeast, whose stocks are those of the beginning of the brewery contributes to it too. It is a particular beer, very original, surprising, which one likes or which one hates…
