Rodd Keith

Rodney Keith Eskelin is a Compositeur, Chanteur and American Claviériste , born the January 30th 1937, dead the December 15th 1974. It is one of the major figures of a musical genre known in North America under the name of Song poem or song sharking , i.e. of recorded songs on account of author. The industry of the music large plublic generally denounces this practice like a swindle.

Rodd Keith worked for several producers of song poem . It recorded hundreds of songs starting from texts sent by lyric writers amateurs after they had answered classifieds passed in magazines of great diffusion promising success and profit in the song. After having sent his letter to the producer, the amateur saw himself proposed to buy the recording of his song. Keith sang and exploited of various instruments this type of recording.

December 15th, 1974, Rodd Keith committed suicide.

In the years 1990, collectors redécouvrirent these recording among old discs vinyl. Several compilations left out of CD, some exclusively devoted to works of Rodd Keith - in particular by the recording company Tzadik directed by John Zorn. The son of Rodd Keith, the saxophonist Ellery Eskelin, commented on these republications. Although Ellery never knew his/her father, of many people said to him that his/her father was a kind of musical genius; Rodd Keith says once he spelled " Rodd" with two D because " God had of it one ".
