Rocroi
Rocroi , or Rocroy , is a common French, located in the department of the the Ardennes and the area Champagne-Ardenne. The city is known from its fortification in the star shape carried out by Vauban and the famous battle of May 19th, 1643.
The inhabitants are the Rocroyens and the Rocroyennes .
Geography
Rocroi is located near the border with the Belgium, with 28 kilometers in the North-West of the chief town of the department, Charleville-Mézières and to 60 km in the south of Charleroi. It has a Superficie of 5.041 hectares and culminates with its maximum with 391 meters.The common S bordering are:
- Taillette (in the east)
- Ford-in Hossus (in north)
- Brûly (Belgium, in north)
- Fumay (in the east)
- Revin (in the east)
- Mazures (in south-east)
- Borough-Faithful (in the south)
- It Châtelet-on-Sormonne (southern point)

Geology
Rocroi is located on a Plateau, called, in way éponyme, " Solid mass of Rocroi". It is acted in fact of a paleozoic structure, with dominant cambrienne, made up of hard stones. This structure, broad of a score of kilometer in direction NS and long of about fifty kilometers in direction EO, is recut by the border belge.

Etymology
The name of Rocroi means the crossing (the crossroads) of Raoul, a former lord of the place at the 13th century. At the 17th century, when Louis XIII bought the near total of the seigniory of Rocroi in 1614, one invented an etymology in conformity with the new statute of the city, to make the Rock of Roy of it, Rock-Roy , so that under the French revolution, it was famous Rock-Free .

Rocroi was strengthened by François Ier and was increased by Henri II.November 20th 1588, the city fell to the hands from the Protestants.
It is during the head office of Rocroi by the Spaniards ordered by the Count de Fuentès that the famous battle of Rocroi took place on May 19th Bataille of Rocroi}}
Ten years later, the same Cop, who ordered the Spaniards then, took this city for them in 1653, but it was returned to France in 1659, by [[peace of the Pyrenees]].

; Agricultural history
Poor ground countries, the type of agriculture practiced until first half of the 20th century were the '' sart ''. Prototype studied in rural geography, it acts of a agro-sylvo-pastoral rotation of approximately 20 years, one practiced as follows:
- Barking of the wood become ripe and sale of the bark to the tanneries
- Close-cropped Cut and sale of the wood of coppice,

- After a certain time, the grazing ground is authorized in the taillis.
