Rocksteady

The Rocksteady is the result of the transformation of the Ska, rate/rhythm at four times, in tempo binary, slower, with a little less coppers, but more keyboards and of song.

It is a music between Ska, Soul North-American and rythm' blues, diffused by the radios of the the United States. The Contrebasse is often replaced by the low electric and the key period is marked over the third time. One finds especially trios of rocksteady singing love songs (The Heptones). Innovations: the singer is well proposed, the musician is confined in the studios and the producer supervises very A to Z.

Appeared in 1966, the rocksteady would have been born from heatwaves which led the musicians to slow down the tempo. But it represents especially a transition between the Ska and the Reggae to which it opens the way in 1968.

The name “rocksteady” does not have an unquestionable and proven origin. Indeed, a certain number of artists and songs can claim under inventor of the mot. Ainsi Alton Ellis recorded in 1967 individual bearing this title, which seems the first evocation of this term. Another history mentions a caïd of Kingston of the name of Busby, which, large dancer of Sound system , would have launched a dance that it called of this name. This term would then have been heard by a radio operator presenter who would have then used it to present these last innovations…

Whatever its origin, it is clear that the term first of all indicated a dance popularized in the sound systems towards the end of the year 1960, before indicating the musical production which was associated for him.
