Rock\'n\'roll Against Bush

Rock Against Bush was the name of a project having mobilized musicians, mainly of the scene punk Skate and Pop punk American, against the countryside for the elections présidentilles of the United States of America in 2004 of George W. Bush.

The action was initiated by Fat Mike (Michael Burkett) of the group NOFX, inspired in that by the countryside Rock Against Reagan of beginning of the year 80. This project was concretized in a series in concerts and albums compilations.

Its goals were to encourage the most people, in particular music lovers Punk, to be made register on the electoral rolls and to vote against Bush. This action remained vain following the final election of George W. Bush.

The albums compilations left on the label Fat Wreck Chords, label founded by Fat Mike and one of most active and recognized in the medium of the music Punk. Moreover of the participation of NOFX, some great names of the music Punk joined this project in offering a song either original, or already published on a preceding album. One can note the presence of The Descendants, The Offspring, Pennywise, Anti-Flag, Green Day, Sum 41 and well of others still.

This project received many criticisms of various shares. The supporteurs of Bush attacked them on the fact that some of the points reproached George W. Bush (in the booklets of the CDS or the DVD) either were skewed or or fallacious. Certains pro-Bush went even until trying to create a counter-project with preserving punk groups against John Kerry which would have been called Crush Kerry , but that remained in an embryonic state.

This project was also criticized by the branch radical-anarchist of the punk movement. Those reproached this project finally for supporting John Kerry while being opposed to George W. Bush, whereas for them, John Kerry was not sufficiently in agreement with the basic ideas of the punk movement. This was in particular one of the reasons having led the group Propagandhi not to take part in this project.
