Rochefort (beer)

The beers of Rochefort are beers Trappists.

Rochefort is located in Belgium, in the Province of Namur. This small town shelters the abbey of Notre-Dame de Saint-Rémy which counts a score of monks; including five which deals with mixing. One brews with the abbey since 1595 but at the time, the priority was given to the agricultural activity. To Rochefort, the quantity of beers manufactured is voluntarily limited. That represents nevertheless a production of 300 hectolitres beers per week.

There exist three types of beers of Rochefort, the 6 (oldest), 8 the “Special one” and the 10 “Wonder”, of which the percentage of alcohol in volume is respectively of 7,5 %, 9,2 % and 11,3 %. All three are brown ales of high Fermentation.
