History

The site of Rochefort-in-Yvelines is inhabited since the Préhistoire as the tools testify some to flints found in the commune and the cave decorated with Normont recently discovered in the field of the golf.

It was with the Roman épqoue a oppidum dominating the surrounding valleys. At the 11th century, Guy Ier de Montlhéry, known as Guy the Red, made build at the top of the hillock an extremely imposing castle. The seigniory, equipped with the title of Principality, passed during the centuries between the hands of various family of which Montfort and Silly, then in 1596, it échut with Hercules de Rohan, grandson of Catherine de Silly, who made rebuild the castle. The principality of Rochefort remained the property of Rohan until the revolution. The branch of Rochefort, only remaining, still carries the title of " prince de Rochefort". The castle still rebuilt at the XVIIIe century was then demolished.

About 1853, the town hall moves into the building of the baillage (where it is still currently) which was used formerly of court and prison. IT was bequeathed to the commune in 1831 by the Rohan family.

The commune was crossed by the railway line Paris-Chartres by Gallardon which was not never completed towards Paris and was finally displaced in 1953.
