Rochecorbon

Rochecorbon (formerly the rock corbon ) is a French commune department of Indre-et-Loire. Its inhabitants is called the Rochecorbonnais (E) S .

Wine commune (300 ha of vines).

Geography

History

The history of Rochecorbon is related to the the Loire, which sprinkles the village. There was a Oppidum Gallic on the territory of common well before the Christian era. The natural caves were occupied at the time of the Aurignacien, as attests some the cut flint discovery.

Rochecorbon, just like Turns, knows the Roman occupation, one named then the village “Vodanum” . The name of the village evolved/moved during the centuries: perhaps its current name comes from Corbon of the Rocks, rich lord knight who made build a castle dominating the Loire. The son of this last made build, in 1095, the quadrangular tower which still remains and which everyone calls the “Lantern”, high ten meters.

The history of Rochecorbon is also related to Saint Martin and Marmoutier, with the very powerful Church which held many grounds and fields in the Loire Valley. Baronnie de Touraine, Rochecorbon is a long time related to the history of the area ligérienne, between Tours and Blois, cities essential during the Moyen-âge and of the Renaissance.

After the French revolution, Rochecorbon is organized around a new administration, the citizens electing the members of the general advice of the communes.

In 1808, Rochecorbon annexes the common Saint-Georges-sur-Loire.

Personalities related to the commune

In its Newspaper of a film , Jean Cocteau mentions that the turning of its masterpiece, the Beautiful one and the Animal , started in Rochecorbon Sunday August 26th 1945. The film was made in a mill (mill of Touvoie of), along a small affluent of the Loire, Bédoire. In this property a fountain called “Fountain of Youth is located”.

Marie Laurentin known as Menie Gregoire. Journalist. From 1967 to 1981, it animates on RTL an emission of radio by calling on the public. Since 1996 it is member of the Académie Sciences, Arts and Beautiful Letters of Touraine. Bibliography of Menie Gregoire
