Roccabianca

Roccabianca is a common Italian of the Province of Parma in the area Emilie-Romagna in Italy.

Geography

This commune is located at 30 kilometers of Parma. It is a river ground, traversed by three rivers: the Taro, Stirone and the river Po. A great number of dams were built and preserved through time to prevent the rising of these rivers, as one can observe them in the neighborhoods of Roccabianca: Fontanelle (native soil of Giovannino Guareschi), Fossa, Ragazzola, Stagno.

Monuments

  • Of the central place of Roccabianca one can reach directly the strong castle, dating from half of the 15th century, built for the mistress of Pier Maria Rossi, the young person Bianca Pellegrini. Inside, in the galleries but especially in the internal rooms like the Griselda room, there are many frescos and stuccos. While climbing of the central tower, the visitor will be able to benefit from a panoramic sight. The current owners in partnership with the public institutions for the conservation of the cultural heritage carried out restorations revealing important paintings and frescos on the ceilings of the parts.

  • In front of the strong castle one finds the church of San Bartolomeo and Michele.

Hamlets

  • Fontanelle, hamlet located at the south-east of Roccabianca. To announce, the native house of Giovannino Guareschi, vis-a-vis the place Giovanni Faraboli and in the vicinity the church of San Marco (16th century), other characters: Luigi Marchese (1825-1862, painter), Giovanni Faraboli (1876-1953, trade unionist and “defender of the poor farmers”), Pietro Bianchi (1909-1976, critic film, journalist and arts person). The countryside and its dams are common elements of the landscape where the Stirone river is linked with the Taro river.
  • Stagno, small hamlet of Roccabianca located in north, on the edges of Po. The stone and sand extraction is an activity which one can observe still today. In this small village was born the painter and caricaturist Remo Gaibazzi (1915-1994). The religious art is visible in the church of San Cipriano and San Giustino with works which are datées17e century and 18th century.

  • Ragazzola, hamlet located at the west of Roccabianca. Many channels make these grounds very fertile. In north; the river Po can be crossed by the bridge Giuseppe Verdi. To announce various places to discover related to Giovannino Guareschi, like the house of the teacher, the house of the Socrate poet, the church of San Pietro (17th century). The height of the dam is surprising because of the abundance of the small rivers which quickly make increase the level of water for the period of the rains.
