Roberto Marcelino Ortiz
Jaime Gerardo Roberto Marcelino María Ortiz Lizardi (born the September 24th 1886 - died the July 15th 1942) was President of Argentina February 20th 1938 with the June 27th 1942.
Roberto Marcelino Ortiz was born with Buenos Aires. He studied at the University of Buenos Aires, and took part in the revolution missed by 1905. He finished his studies of right in 1909. He became active within the party of the Unión Cívica Radical and was elected appointed with the Argentinian National congress in 1920. He was named public Minister for Labor of president Alvear of 1925 with 1928. It supported the military coup d'etat of 1930 and was Minister of Finances of 1935 with 1937 under the mandate of the president Agustín Pedro Justo.
He was official candidate of the government to the presidential elections of 1937 which he gained. But the opposition showed it of electoral fraud, whereas the irregularities were largely widespread. Ortiz never denied these charges, but as soon as it took up duty, it tried to make the policy Argentinian cleaner and more transparent, with the assistance of its Minister of Interior Department, Diógenes Taboada. He was president of the country at the difficult time of the beginning of the Second world war. Though it was pro-allies, it did not declare the war with the powers of the axis, because of the opposition within the army strongly fascisante. But its diabetes, to which it had paid attention little, in spite of the warning statements of its doctors, caused a total blindness and a deterioraration of its organization which obliged it to give up its functions. Initially its vice-president Ramón Castillo was president making function. Then it renonça completely with its load the June 27th 1942. He died shortly after of the diabetes at a advanced stage.
Its vice-president Ramón Castillo thus succeeded to him. This last did not share its democratic zeal and cancelled its reforms.
