Roberto Di Cosmo

Roberto Di Cosmo is a researcher and Italian data processing specialist , installed in France.

It is graduate Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa and supported its thesis of doctorate at the University of Pisa, before becoming lecturer to the National university in Paris, then professor with the Université Paris 7.

Member of AFUL, the French-speaking association of the users of Linux and the free software, it is known for his implication in the field of the free software and for his talents of pedagogy. He regularly makes conferences on subjects related to the free software.

He is the carrier, as a president of the provisional office, the project of Pole of competitiveness Ouverture, devoted to the free software on the area Paris-Island-of-France, recently integrated within the System@tic pole.

He became famous during the publication on the Net of a lampoon in 1998 : Trap in the Cyberspace .

He is joint author of a book with the journalist Dominique Nora: the planetary Holdup: the hidden side of Microsoft . This book is available today free under license Creative Commons BY-NC-ND.

One of its great contributions to Linux is, also, the diffusion of the first distribution “  live  ” (of 2000 to 2002)  : Demolinux, allowing to use Linux starting from a CD-ROM, without installation.
