Robert de Visée

Robert de Visée (v. 1658 - 1725), guitarist, Théorbiste and lutist left many major works for these instruments. He also transcribed some of these works for top and low, those then being able to be carried out by a top (violin, flute, oboe, etc) and Basse continues. There exist two collections of works for guitar: the Book of guittarre dedicated to Roy (sic) (published in Paris in 1682) and the Book of parts for the guittarre dedicated to Roy (published in Paris in 1686), second book which it wished to make more accessible to the less advanced guitarists.

Of Aiming belonged to the small circle of musicians admitted in the room of the king Louis XIV and he lavished lessons to him since this one, like other members of the court, played of the guitar.

“… they parts for guitar had several times glory to amuse V.M. in the hours of this invaluable leisure, or it rests its Majestic work and of its great occupations which regulate aujourd' huy the destiny of toutte Europe. ” (Extracted the dedication to the king of the Book of guittarre ).

It enters to the Chamber music about 1680 and becomes “Master of guitar of Roy” about 1719, taking the continuation of Louis Jourdan of the Room. In the théorbe and the guitar, it takes part regularly in the evenings given by Madam de Maintenon.
