Robert de Torigni

Robert de Torigni , or sometimes of Thorigny , born with Torigni-sur-Vire towards 1110 and dead the June 24th 1186 is a Norman Chronique ur .

Monk Benedictine, entered with the abbey of the Nozzle in 1128, Robert de Torigni becomes the prior about it before 1149. Elected official abbot of the Mount-Saint-Michel in 1154, Robert de Torigni was a large reader of religious works as well as profane. As a prior and an abbot, it was implied more in the secular world than Orderic Vital and Guillaume de Jumièges, the two joint authors of the Gesta Normannorum Ducum . The first substantial work of Robert de Torigni is the revision of the Gesta Normannorum Ducum going back to 1139. He is the author of appendices and appendices to the chronicle of Sigebert of Gembloux which covers the period 385 with 1100. The Gesta Normannorum Ducum is a continuation of Sigebert which extends from 1100 with 1186. This work is of interest for the history of 1154 with 1170.
