Robert Zoellner is the only collector to have joined together the complete collection of the postage stamps of the the United States.

In its childhood, Zoellner collects the stamps and supplements its Stamp album of the United States. It leaves empty boxes there, in particular with the site of the rarest stamps. In 1984, the desire for supplementing the album is revived. He even consults, in 1985, Scott Tempel of the house of bidding Siegel Auctions to know if its project is realizable. It is answered to him that certain stamps exist in very few specimens, whose owner can not be known more with the wire of the sales between private individuals.

Zoellner is baited all the same and benefitted in November 1986 from the setting to the biddings of the one of the two known specimens of the 1 hundred '' Z grill '' with the effigy of Benjamin Franklin. In November 1986, it acquires it for the sum of 418.000 dollars, nap then record for a stamp of the United States.

In addition to these purchases of stamps isolated for its album, Zoellner also gets bands, blocks and books of stamps. It especially prints pages for these acquisitions.

In 1996, whereas there remain only empty boxes, Zoellner receives an invitation to expose its collection to the exposure Anphilex “96 of New York. The last stamp in the last moments before Anphilex is the gift of a friend: 30 hundreds gray-black of 1873 with the effigy of Alexander Hamilton.

Obviously, its goal reached, Zoellner ignored the evolution of its collection. Between the 8 and on October 10th, 1998, it is sold with the biddings at Siegel Auctions and reached a final amount of 8.030.863 dollars. The very documented catalog makes 391 pages. The 1 hundred Z grill is bought by Donald Sundman of Mystic Stamp Company for the sum of 935.000 dollars.
