Robert Wise

Robert Wise , born with Winchester (Indiana) the September 10th 1914 and died with Los Angeles the September 14th 2005, is a producing Réalisateur, , Director and American Monteur . In 1961, it coréalise with the Choreographer Jerome Robbins the Musical comedy West Side Story , which gained ten Oscars. Four years later, it carries out the Melody of happiness , crowned of five Oscars.

Biography

It started in cinema industry in 1933 like dispach rider with the studios RKO, carrying reels between the rooms of assembly and those of projection.

In 1939, it becomes one of the most famous Monteur S of the time. Orson Welles will call upon him for Citizen Kane (1940) and the Splendor of Amberson (1942). The first of these two films is worth to him a nomination with the Oscars.

It passed by chance to the realization while replacing, in 1943, Gunther von Fritsch during turning the Curse of the man-cats .
