Robert Williams Wood

Robert William Wood is a American Physicien born on May 2nd, 1868 with Concord in the Massachusetts and deceased on August 11th, 1955 with Amytiville in the state of New York. It is especially known to have invented a filter screen (filter of Wood) letting pass mainly the ultraviolet rays (wavelengths higher than 366 nanometers) commonly called black light or black light .

He discovered in 1905 optical resonance and worked on the Spectroscopie, the Photographie color, the emission of light using metal vapors, the Fluorescence in X-rays and the biological effect of the Radiation S.

He was prize winner of the Médaille Rumford in 1938.
