Robert Wangermée

Robert Wangermée (Lodelinsart September 21st 1920 -) is a Musicologue and Belgian administrator .

Biography

Robert Wangermée studies the music with Jean Absil and the history with the Universit3e libre de Bruxelles. After obtainhaving obtained there its doctorate in history thanks to its thesis on the musical Taste in France at the 19th century (1946), it teaches there as lecturer in 1948 - succeeding its former professor Charles Van den Borren, the large precursor of musicology in Belgium - then like part-time lecturer in 1962. Wangermée founds then the sub-section of musicology (within the department of history of art and archeology, faculty of philosophy and letters). It is named there professor in 1965, function which it assumed until 199… . In 1964, it had created, always with the ULB, the Center of Studies of Sociology of the Music.

It in parallel carried out a brilliant career in the audio-visual: engaged with INR (National institute of broadcasting, precursor of RTBF) in 1946, it there becomes director of the musical Service in 1953, creates the “third radio operator program” (specialized in the classical music), and finishes his career as general administrator of RTBF of 1960 with 1984.

Robert Wangermée took up and assumes still the duty of administrator or president of many associations, foundations or institutions:

  • member of the board of directors of the International Musical Contest Queen Elizabeth of Belgium
  • member of the board of directors of the musical Foundation Queen Elisabeth
etc

Author of many works, articles and forewords of works like collaborator and/or editor of innumerable collective works relating to musicology, the sociology of the music, the cultural policies and radio-television, Robert Wangermée assumes the responsibility for Co-editor of the Belgian Revue of Musicology since 1958.

Robert Wangermée was selected like one of the Hundred Walloons of the century, by the Institut Jules Destrée, in 1995.
