Robert Tournières

Robert Bulk of Tournières , born on June 17th, 1667 with Caen where he died on May 18th, 1752, is a painter French.

Raise Lucas Delahaye, then from Bon Boullongne and Rigaud, Tournières was accepted, makes rather singular, twice with the royal Académie of painting, in 1702, as painter of portraits with the portraits of the painters Pierre Mosnier and Michel Corneille, and the October 24th 1716, as painter of history with the Invention of the drawing (1716), showing a couple of in love lit by only one candle. Promoted auxiliary professor in 1737, it successfully exposed to the Salon of 1742.

The heterogeneous character of its work is typical of an artist of the transitional period of Regency: the Dutch elements give to its work a new and more intimate character, while lightness of its light pallet precedes the style Rococo. It made great paintings whose memory and trace are lost and of small in which it was distinguished, concerned about Godfried Schalken and Gerald Dou which it had especially studied. Those are well dispersed from now on, if not completely stray.

With a real talent of physiognomist and painter, Tournières enjoyed sound living a very great reputation. Extremely required of its time, it left a considerable number of portraits which are for the majority in the particular collections. With a delicate color, a perfect suitability in the installation and the adjustment, a certain elegance in draperies, it was, according to the word of eminent criticizes, an artist carefuller than powerful and, without being able to be counted with the row of the first portraitists, it holds a honourable place to with it.

Turned over in its cheap native in 1749, it ceases painting. His/her father, engraver of his state, had married a widow who had a son, which was François Lemoyne.
