Robert Tatin , (January 9th 1902, Laval - December 16th 1983, Thimble-the-Vivien) is a French artist.

Origin

In its district of the Spine, he lives beside poorest. He keeps of them the direction of the not involved action and solidarity with the most stripped. Its youth is stressed by the brass bands and the glares of the Cirque. It forges there its taste for foil, the high and strong verb, it to appear and the way of. It is not at the school which it draws its knowledge because it made there a passage more than fast. The voyage

But especially, Robert Tatin is a man of the road. After a four years stay to Paris, of 1918 with 1922, where he attends the artists of the Bateau-Lavoir, he traverses the country like Compagnon of the Tour de France. Then, it goes to Rome, in Sardinia, Corsica Suisse and . In 1951 and for five years, it is the South America, the Brésil, the Chile and the Ground of Fire. From its innumerable voyages, it withdraws a human density, a philosophy and an extraordinary artistic quality.

Artistic course

It had a singular course: painter and Sculptor, it starts to be recognized in this field (gold medal with biennial of São Paulo, Brésil, in 1956 for its sculptures; first price of criticism with Paris in 1961) and yet, it takes refuge with Thimble-the-Vivien to build there its museum, recognized like such in 1969 by André Malraux.

Frénouse

It chose the scrap-metal mayennais with his Lise wife to carry out the work of result of its career and its life: the Strange museum of Robert Tatin in the Frénouse with Thimble-the-Vivien, inaugurated a little later by Andre Malraux. It is an immense sculpture dedicated to Humanity with the Alley of the Giants , architecture decorated with reliefs, the rooms of drawings, paintings and ceramics. The artist mingles universal symbols and poetry with it to deliver his thought to us on the history of the world. In love with the Cathedral S, Tatin carries out a monumental work, a carved architecture which shelters ceramics, drawings, paintings of this same artist, and which is neighborly with other creations like clothing.

He knew and cotoyé largest of contemporary painting: Picasso, Chagall, Dresser. Otto Hahn, critical artistic in particular with the Express train wrote many articles on Robert Tatin.

'' Musée Robert Tatin '', Frénouse, Thimble-the-Vivien

the Fleur ”, a giant statue, had been broken by a truck in 1976. Tatin had then destroyed it then had given the head to one of his/her friends, who has just returned it to the museum where it is exposed today. Outside, the field of contemporary sculptures grew rich by a work offered by the artist Bernadette Nel, who also exposes in the temporary room.
