Robert Rumilly
Robert Rumilly (October 23rd 1897 with Fort-de-France, Martinique - March 8th 1983 with Montreal) is a Historien Québécois. He is especially known for his Biographie S and his monumental Histoire of the province of Quebec in 41 volumes.
Biography
He was wounded at the time of his participation in the First World War.He emigrates in 1928 with the Canada. He writes a Biographie then there Prime Minister of Canada Wilfrid Laurier in 1931. After the drafting of some other biographies, it obtains a station of translator to Ottawa, which facilitates the access to the to him Public records of Canada of 1936 to 1948. He will move then with Montreal and will become at a certain time the appointed biographer of Maurice Duplessis.
As from 1940, it starts to publish its monumental Histoire of the province of Quebec in 41 volumes, which covers the years 1867 to 1945 in a chronological way. Last volume will leave in 1969. To carry out its work, Rumilly is based on the articles of the newspapers and testimonys which it collects. Pierre Trépanier indicates that the general screen of the account was inspired by the Hommes of good will of Jules Romains.
Among the others Biography S which it wrote, let us quote those of: Maurice Duplessis, Louis-Joseph Papineau, Henri Bourassa, Honore Draper and Frère Marie-Victorin. He published a history of the Acadie and Société Saint-Jean-Baptist. Baited worker, it also published Monographie S on different Ville S Québécois: Montreal, Outremont, the St. Lawrence and Longueuil.
Ultra-nationalist of right-hand side which fought against the Communisme, it founded a center of studies which diffused Pamphlet S Politique S in favor of the national union. According to the specialist Jean-François Nadeau, this fight led it to admire the doctrines of Charles Maurras, i.e. the " integral Nationalism ".
