Robert Paragot

Robert Paragot is a mountaineer French born in 1927 with Bullion (Yvelines) which was illustrated on many rises.

Among his important facts, one can quote the following conquests:

  • 1953: Aconcagua (6959 Mr.), in Argentinian, first of the very difficult southern face in company of Lucien Bérardini, Rene Peel, A. Dagory, E. Denis, Pierre Lesueur and Guy Chicken. Five of his/her companions had to undergo various amputations of fingers and toes.
  • 1962: Jannu (7710 Mr.), with the Nepal, with Paul Keller, Gyalzen Mitchung, Rene Desmaison, Lionel Terray, Jean Herdsman, Andre Bertrand, Jean Ravier, Yves Pollet-Villard, Wongdi, Pierre Leroux.
  • 1966: Huascarán (6768 Mr.), with the Peru, first rise of the northern face in company of Lucien Bérardini, Robert Jacob, Claude Jaccoux, Dominique Leprince-Ringuet, Georges Payot and Yannick Lord (the south-western slope is the normal way).
  • 1971: Makalu (8463 Mr.), on the border tibéto - Nepal ease, with, inter alia, Bernard Mellet, Yannick Lord and Lucien Bérardini.

Robert Paragot also illustrated himself during long years in the famous solid mass of Fontainebleau where it opened several ways now famous, among them, with the Vat, Défroquée (a flagstone in 6c) and the Joker, a wall which counts among the first 7a block of the forest.

Robert Paragot was president of the Groupe of High mountain (GHM) of 1965 to 1975, President of the committee of the the Himalayas until 1999 and member of the Committee of the French federation of the mountain and the climbing (FFME). Direct founder of the review Summits in 1996 and founder of the price Crystal decreed by the FFME.

Joint author of three works on the mountain, it gives still today conferences on this activity.
