Robert Lafont (in occitan Robert Lafont , in IPA la' fun, born with Nimes on March 16th 1923) is a Linguiste, historian of the literature Occitan E, poet, author of news, and playwright occitan.

Robert Lafont is professor emeritus of the Université Paul-Valéry of Montpellier. University linguist of profession, it is all at the same time polyglot, novelist, poet, author of theater, essay writer, medievist. General-purpose writer, his work comprises nearly a hundred books in Occitan, in French, Italian Catalan and . One as well finds works there on the literary history and the history of the companies, that works on the Linguistique and the Sociolinguistique, or of the works on socio-economic imbalances in France and Europe.

In its French tests, it presents the situation, not only of the occitanie, but also of the whole of the minorities living on the French territory. It is one of the theorists of what it is agreed to call the colonialism interns , while speaking about the situation occitane. The other shutter of its work, literature in language occitane, mark a revival of literary creation in this language, by its total rupture with the former folk tradition.

It founded the Comité occitan studies and of action and assumed the direction of various periodic publications (“ the negro ESA ” in 1946, “ Viure ” in 1962). He was also producer of theater of social animation. He was president of the Institut of studies occitanes (which he left in 1981 following internal tensions anti-academics). In 1974 it expressed its intention to present to the presidential elections French, but could not meet the legal conditions required of the candidates.
