Robert Labine

Robert Labine , born on December 23rd, 1940 with Gatineau with the Quebec, was an important character on the political scene of the Town of Gatineau. More particularly it was Maire the old town of Gatineau of 1988 to 1994 and 1999 to 2001.

It began its political career while becoming city council man of Gatineau in 1968. He was elected mayor of Gatineau in 1988 and he was confirmed again at this station in 1991. However, because of an allegation of conflict of interests, it had to resign in 1994. It is in 1999 qu' it is again elected mayor of Gatineau by demolishing Berthe Miron.

During the year 2000, the government of Quebec announces its intention to amalgamate Gatineau with Hull, Aylmer, Masson-Angers and Buckingham. Elections take place and it is the former mayor of Hull, Yves Ducharme, who is elected mayor of the new town of Gatineau.

Robert Labine had a particular vision of Gatineau and it was not particularly favorable to the fusion of the five cities of Outaouais. He was opposed besides to this project at the time of a referendum on this question. He finally accepted this idea when the government of Quebec imposed fusion.

Robert Labine was a builder and several infrastructures were born during its mandate. Let us mention the town hall. the general headquarter of the police force and workshops municipal, without counting the important renovation work of the sewers and the aqueduct. It could not carry out the sports complex which appeared so important to him for the urban development.

Robert Labine is married in Liette Tremblay and two children come from this union, Louise and Robert junior.
