Robert Kubica (born the December 7th 1984 with Cracow, Poland) is a Polish racing driver. Become at the time of the Grand Prix of Hungary in August 2006 the first Pole to take the departure of a GP of Formula 1, it is from now on one of the two titular pilots of the stable BMW Sauber after the setting with the variation of the Inhabitant of Quebec Jacques Villeneuve. He is confirmed for the season 2007, which he disputes at the sides of the German Nick Heidfeld.

Biography

1984-1994: Initiation at the speed

Robert Kubica (to be pronounced `' Koubitsa'') knows a childhood a little easier than the children of his age. As of 4 or 5 years, it starts to control small cars bought by his father and to be involved on carparks, where it refines his trajectories while slalomant between bottles. His/her father makes thereafter a machine able to him to reach 90 km/h, and on which Robert does not have of cease of martyriser the tires with great blow of skid. It is at its 7 years that the father of Robert offers his first Karting to him. But the pilot apprentice is still too young to see himself granting a license and to roll in competition.

1995-2000: Success in karting

Robert must wait his 10 years to dispute his first competitions. In spite of the precarious economic situation of the family, her father does not hesitate to make the financial efforts necessary to allow him to continue his progress, by buying new karts. Robert is also helped in his progression by his meeting with Jurek Wrona, a mechanic considered to be one of the best preparers of engines in Poland. Quickly, Kubica starts to dominate without division the Polish circuits and to cumulate the championships national.

While the career incipient from Robert leads it to exceed the Polish borders and to run in particular to Italy, its family is not any more able to support the costs of them. Safety comes from the stable of Karting Italian CRG, which allures by its beautiful services, proposes a wheel of official pilot to him. 14 years it has is a true change of life for the Kubica young person, from now on installed full-time in Italy. Initially test pilot, Kubica accumulates the kilometers, before being established. Proof of its talent, it gains the championship of Italy Junior, the Monaco Kart Cup and finishes vice-champion of Europe. Always at CRG in 1999, it again gains the championship of Italy Junior, that of Germany, takes down a news Monaco Kart Cup and finishes 4th championship of the world Formule A. In 2000, Kubica decides to leave stable CRG to join the Birel team. It is again titrated in Germany and Italy.

2001-2002: Formula Renault in Italy

Contacted by Daniel Morelli (the manager of the pilot of Brazilian F1 Pedro Diniz), Robert Kubica is invited to Valence to dispute there the last sleeve of the championship of Renault Formula 2 liters. A first contact which, followed by a test successful a few months later on the track of Ledenon, opens the way upon a complete engagement as from semi-season 2001 within team RC Motorsport. Regarded as one of the most promising pilots of its generation, Kubica is even selected at the end of the year by the Renault Driver Development, which gives a welcome budgetary support to him. In 2002, Kubica gains 4 victories, and finishes vice-champion of Italian Renault Formula, in spite of many engineering problems.

2003-2004: Hopes disappointed in Formula 3

In 2003, in spite of its ousting of the RDD, Kubica reaches the new championship of Formule 3 Euroseries, within the ambitious team Prema Powerteam. But little before the beginning season, it is victim of a serious road accident in Poland, whereas it was momentary. Raised with multiple fractures with the arm, it is dealt with by Doctor Riccardo Ceccarelli (doctor of the team Toyota F1) is constrained to observe a long convalescence and to miss the three first meeetings (that is to say six races) of the season. Of return to the competition on the circuit of the Norisring, amazed Kubica observers while imposing itself as of its very first participation, and that in spite of a still precarious physical condition, even if it is advisable to specify that the layout of Norisring is not most demanding of the season. The continuation of its season is more delicate, and Robert pains to compete regularly with the best.

Again 3 of them Euroseries in 2004 Formulates, it integrates the rows of ASL-Mücke, but without hardly more success. It carries out nevertheless a performance of very first order at the end of the season at the time of presigieux GP of Macao F3 (at the wheel of a single-seater of Manor Motorsport, it finishes 2nd, after having signed the pole-position, the best turn in race, and having dominated its one day old fellow-member Lewis Hamilton).

2005: Triumph in World Series by Renault

Kubica manages to continue its progression in the pyramid of the automobile sport, by taking down a wheel in 2005 in the championship of World Series by Renault within the Spanish team Epsilon Euskadi, directed by Joan Villadelprat. A man whom Daniel Morelli knows well since he was the sport director of Ligier at the time where Diniz controlled for the French stable. In spite of the limited budget of his team, Robert Kubica takes down four victories, and gains the title of the pilots, while offering the title " écurie" in Epsilon. In a country where the automobile sport remains very confidential, its successes start a beautiful passion as testify some the audiences televised to Nissan World Series (higher than those of F1) and contribute to make of him a national celebrity.

After having missed the first opportunity of rolling in F1 (the team Minardi wanted to make of him its pilot of Friday at the time of GP of Japan 2005, but the TRUSTED refused to grant to Kubica its super-license, putting forward its absence of experiment at the wheel of F1), it buckles its season by a short return in Formule 3 (in the Carlin team), at the time of the GP of Macao. Like the previous year, it must be satisfied with the second place after being slim pole-position.

2006: Beginnings in Formula 1

Irony of the history for that which one year earlier had been ejected RDD, its title in World Series by Renault enables him to carry out in December 2005 of the tests for the Renault F1 TEAM. Kubica signs excellent stopwatches, but having already three pilots under contract (Alonso, Fisichella and Kovalainen), Renault is not able to propose another thing to him only one folding seat. However it is in papers of BMW and a few weeks later, in January 2006, it carries out a meeting of test on board one of the single-seaters of the stable (actually a Sauber of the previous year). Again very powerful, Kubica is engaged in the capacity as third pilot. Present on all the GP of the championship of the world 2006 in the capacity as 3rd pilot in charge of the tests of Friday, Kubica is shown regularly faster than the titular pilots Nick Heidfeld and Jacques Villeneuve and even on several occasions carries out best time in particular during the first meeting of the year in Bahrain (with this reserve close at the time of the day of Friday, the pilot tester often has a car more powerful than the holders and than the four best stables of the year last (in fact Renault McLaren Ferrari and Toyota) did not profit from the privilege of a third conveys Friday). Despite everything its talent is undeniable and the praises regular of its sport director Mario Theissen reveal the strong regard which he enjoys in-house.

Following the unavailability of Jacques Villeneuve, badly given of an accident to GP of Germany (unless it is not a disguised dismissal), Kubica carries out its beginnings in GP at the time of GP of Hungary 2006. In spite of several errors in race under the rain, and a disqualification for weight nonin conformity (whereas it had finished 7th), the Polish pilot allured by his beautiful performances. The August 7th, the shortly after its first GP, the team BMW Sauber announces the final replacement of Villeneuve by Kubica for all the end of season. The September 10th, at the time of GP of Italy, Robert Kubica, after being itself qualified in 6th position, obtains, as of its third Grand Prix, its first podium, while finishing 3rd behind Michael Schumacher and Kimi Räikkönen. He becomes thus the first Polish pilot to assemble on the podium of a Grand Prix of Formule 1, and the second controls young person to carry out this exploit behind Alonso.

2007: The accident with GP of Canada de Formule 1

Confirmed at BMW Sauber for the season 2007 at the sides of Nick Heidfeld, that which passes for the great revelation of 2006 is very awaited, and that more especially as the single-seaters of Hinwill posted a promising potential during the winter tests.
The beginning of the season of Robert however proves delicate. Enough clearly dominated in performance pure by Heidfeld (what main concern partly explains by his difficulties of adapting his style of piloting to the gums Bridgestone), he sees moreover concentrating on his car the principal preoccupations with a reliability of the stable. After having marked its first points of the season with Sakhir where it finishes 6th (but enough far from Heidfeld), it finds a level of competitiveness in conformity with its initial ambitions with Barcelona where it finishes with the foot of the podium, before taking down a solid fifth place in the streets of Monaco.

Its return in form is brutally stopped at the time of the Grand Prix of Canada. Qualified in eighth position, Robert Kubica evolves/moves in the soft belly of the group following its first supply carried out under the mode of the security car. To the 27e turn, it comes into contact with the Toyota of Jarno Trulli the portion of the circuit which brings back the competitors towards the pin of the casino, and loses its front aileron. Its BMW leaves the track, takes off and is crushed of face against a concrete low wall (according to the statements of the block box, the impact took place to 230 km/h and Kubica boxed a deceleration of 75-G) before rebounding on the track, slipping and finally to immobilize themselves in the pin. Kubica remains prisoner of what remains of its single-seater during several minutes, before being evacuated towards the medical center of the circuit, then towards a hospital of Montreal. The violence of the impact and the images of the motionless pilot let fear the worst but the first news coming from the entourage of the pilot is reassuring, and in the evening, a medical official statement announces that he suffers only from one light cranial traumatism, as of one ankle sprain (whereas the first news gave a report on a possible fracture to the leg). As of Monday, that is to say the shortly after its accident, Robert Kubica leaves the hospital, without apparent after-effects of its accident. Immediately, he entrusts his desire for taking part in GP of the United States, whose first tests are envisaged next Friday. But Thursday, the medical delegates of the TRUSTED, after examination, refuse to grant their green light to him and imposes to him a rest of a few additional days because of the possible consequences of a new accident. To replace it, BMW calls upon the young German Sebastian Vettel, one of the two pilots testers of the stable. It carries out its return to the competition at the time of the Grand Prix of France or it finishes 4th after being party in 4th position. It will also finish a 4th week later with the Grand Prix of Great Britain.

Its future Formulates 1 of them

The August 21st 2007, BMW confirms it for the season 2008, just like its team-member Nick Heidfeld.
