Robert Ier de Namur
Robert Ier , died between 974 and 981, was count de Namur of 946 to its death.
Nothing of his origins are known. L. Venderkindere put forth the assumption that Robert is grandson of Berenger by his mother. The Vita Gerardi abbatis Broniensis specifies that lees downward of Béranger continued to hold the county of Namur, but the absence of the first names of Berenger and Régnier lets think that it is rather about a collateral descent.
It regularly appears in the acts between 946 and 974 and takes share between 958 and 963 with the rebellion of the count Immon against Brunon, duke of Lotharingie. On the occasion, it reinforced the fortifications of the castle of Namur. Its last appearance in the documents of time goes up with 974, and his/her son Albert Ier appears in 981.
Marriage and children
His wife is not known. On the basis of onomastics, Thierry Stasser put forth the assumption of a girl of Albert, count de Metz and of Luitgarde, girl of Wigéric de Bidgau and Cunégonde de France. At all events, Robert is the father of:- Albert Ier († 1012), count de Namur
