Robert IV of Marck

Robert IV of Marck (1520 - 1556), duke of Bubble, prince of Sedan, lord of Florange and Raucourt, was wire of Robert III of Marck, Marshal of France. Husband of Francoise de Brézé. They have new children:

  • Guillemette of Marck (1545-1592). marry of Jean de Ligny, Count de Brienne, mother of Louise of Luxembourg.
  • Francoise (1547-?) abbess of Avenay-Valley-in Or.
  • Catherine (1548-?) ram of Breval. marry Jacques de Harlay, lord of Champvallon.

It was named at seventeen years captain of the Members of the Swiss Guards of the Garde of the King.

Henri II raised it with the dignity of Marshal of France in 1547 and sent it in embassy near the pope Jules III to carry its subsidiary obedience to him.

He took share in 1552 with the catch of Metz and took again possession of the places of sound Duché of Bubble thirty years after the usurpation of Charles Quint.

Lieutenant Général in Normandy, it was made prisoner with the catch of the Château of Hesdin. Led to the strong castle of the Lock in Flanders, it was very badly treated by the Spaniards and there remained until the Trêve of Vaucelles, the February 5th 1556.

Its ransom was fixed at the considerable sum of one hundred thousand ecus which it could pay only by engaging part of its States. As of its coming out of prison, on order of the emperor Charles Quint, he died of the poison that one had made him absorb before releasing it. He was buried with the church the St. Lawrence de Sedan
