Robert Guthrie

Robert Guthrie is an American doctor born on June 28th 1916, died in Seattle on June 24th 1995, Robert Guthrie is regarded today in the whole world as the large pioneer of the tests of mass at the new-born babies.
Its second child was reached of backwardness and one of his/her nieces was reached of Phénylcétonurie, fault of being detected with temps.
It then carried out many experiments which finally led to the development of the Test of Guthrie, particularly simple and cheap: a few blood drops are taken with the heel or the finger of the baby, on a paper absorbant.
Its test is used still today in very many countries where it was generalized with all the new-born babies. In France, the test was presented in 1963 and spread towards 1980. Its test made it possible to detect in time of tens of thousands of children reached of Phénylcétonurie, to make them profit from a mode very low in phenylalanine and to preserve them of an inescapable backwardness.
