Robert Fossier
Robert Fossier (born the September 4th 1927) is a Historien French, specialist in the Western Moyen-âge.
Career of histoiren
Former student of the College Henri-Iv and the School of the charters (promotion 1949), it is aggregate of history. After a thesis of 3rd cycle devoted to the economic life of the abbey of Clairvaux, origin in XVIe century (1949), Robert Fossier begins his career like conservative with the historical library of Paris (1949-1953). He is thereafter professor with the college of Fontainebleau (1953-1955) then to the Carnot college of Paris (1955-1957).In 1957, he becomes assistant in the Sorbonne then part-time lecturer to the Université of Nancy II as from 1961. Ten years later he becomes professor at the university of university Paris I Pantheon-Sorbonne of which he is professor emeritus today since 1993.
In 1971, it receives the money Medal of CNRS.
Histoiren of the Middle Ages
R. Fossier worked mainly on medieval Picardy. In 1968, it publishes its thesis of doctorate entitled: Earth of the men in Picardy until the end of XIIIe century . Since the years 1970, it does not cease writing books or articles touching with the topics of the Féodalité (term which it refuses to use) between XIe and XIIIe century.He is the inventor of the concept of Encellulement, by widening the Incastellamento Pierre Toubert. According to R. Fossier, the village regrouping in the north of the kingdom of France, would not be due to only the incastellamento, but rather on the initiative seigneuriale in general (the banal seigniory in particular).
In its last work, These people of the Middle Ages , Robert Fossier tries to make discover the medieval company different from that which one knows already, aristocracy, to plunge itself more on that whose sources are the least talkative: people. He summarizes his work thus: " People of the Middle Ages it is nous".
