Robert Donat

Robert Donat (March 18th 1905 - June 9th 1958) was born in England. It begins with the theater then becomes one of the young first more for British cinema of the Années 1930.

It has already two large successes with its credit when Alfred Hitchcock engages it: the Private life of Henry VIII of Alexandre Korda and the Count of Assembles-Cristo of Rowland V. Lee. In tread of 39 steps , it turns with Rene Clear ( Fantôme to sell in 1935, with Jean Parker), Jacques Feyder ( the Knight without armor, in 1937, with Marlene Dietrich), King Vidor ( the Citadel in 1938), Sam Wood ( Au-revoir Mr. Chips , in 1939, its larger popular success for which he obtains a Oscar), Carol Reed ( Young Mr. Pitt , in 1942).

In 1948 it passes to the setting in scene with The Cure for Love , but does not republish the experiment.

It finds its first great role in 1951 in the magic Box of John Boulting, it incarnates the English inventor of the cinematograph, Friese Greene . In 1958, he interprets a last role, that of the Mandarin of Yang Cheng, in " The Inn of the sixth happiness " (Robson Mark, 1913-1978), for which it is nominated with the Golden Globe of the best actor. He dies shortly after of an asthma attack.
