Robert Debré

Robert Debré , born with Sedan (the Ardennes) the December 7th 1882 and died in the the Kremlin-Bicêtre the April 29th 1978, is a French doctor, considered as one of the founders of the modern Pédiatrie.

Biography

Robert Debré is associated with the revival and the rise of the National institute of hygiene (future INSERM) he will be the president of 1946 to 1964, and with the creation of the University hospitals (CHU) with the teaching hospital reform in 1958. He is elected member of the Academy of Science in 1961 and he is member of the national Académie of medicine.

Its work of Pediatry, Treated infantile pathology , written in collaboration with Paul Rohmer and appeared in 1946, made authority for a whole generation of doctors. He is often regarded as the father of modern French pediatry, even European. He was at the same time the colleague and the friend of the professors Jean Quénu, Paul Rohmer (1876-1977) and Albert Besson (1896-1965).

He made his last public short speech on November 1st 1976, then 94 years old, with the ceremony of the centenary of Paul Rohmer (1876 - 1977) with the large amphitheater of the medical college of Strasbourg.

A hospital in the 19th district of Paris (the hospital Robert Debré), conceived by the architect Pierre Riboulet, bears his name, as well as the CHU of Rheims.
