Biography

Its youth

Robert Bunon was born on May 1st, 1702 with Trawl-net-in-Champagne, seat of the intendance and the general information of Champagne. Because of its family, he learns to us in Expériences and demonstrations made at the Hospital from Salpêtrière , which he acquires very young person knowledge in dental surgery. He can travel in various provinces, several seaports and the countries foreign, (…) country of Liege and mainly Antwerp, Brussels, Valencians and the villages of Flanders . By reading various works of anatomy, medicine and surgery, he seeks how to prevent the diseases of the teeth. I found that if there were merit to relieve or cure even without return the various diseases of the teeth, it would be more advantageous with the Public to seek the means of preventing them .

During several years he works in Châlons-sur-Marne and in the surroundings, unceasingly removing teeth entirely decayed or shaken by the effect of the tartar or another thing .

Robert Bunon discusses in vain with the doctors, the surgeons and the operators. He studies their techniques. Its Master, a " célèbre" dentist, proves to be ignorant. He learns Latin, Italian, German, English and enormously reads books on the question.

Paris (1737)

In 1728, Robert Bunon, with Antwerp, learns the publication from the book of Pierre Fauchard. Afterwards many research, it ends up acquiring of it with Givet. This book makes him discover what should be a true dental surgeon. Eager to change its methods and to follow the example of Pierre Fauchard, it leaves to settle in Paris. Robert Bunon settles in Paris and presents in 1739 to Saint-Cosme where it is examined and received dental surgeon downtown this .

Robert Bunon Marie in 1740 in Paris with the sister of Léonard Georget (1715 - 1799), lord of Harnincourt. His/her brother-in-law will appear (1715 - 1799) in the list of the 9 doctors and ordinary surgeons of the king in his artillery of the royal Almanach of France of 1757 to 1758, and like Permanent of the royal Académie of surgery This Léonard Georget, lord of Harnincourt, are quoted in the Mémoires of the royal Academy of surgery , like free academician, on October 1st, 1752. One finds it in the list of the royal Académie of surgery on January 1st, 1757.

Towards 1740/1745, Robert Bunon lives with 52 rue de l'Arbre Sec. He has two wire and a girl, in 1741,1742 and 1744.

It is not that a vulgar dentist, but after multiple observations it publishes two writings on the experiments and the demonstrations which he makes with Salpétrière. He wants to also make known the influence of the diseases of the body on the organization of the teeth and erosion. It is thus there that Bunon begins its observations. He notices that the food can also have an influence.

Robert Bunon is very criticized and it must convince of the police chiefs of the Academy of Surgery by experiments on patients or the corpses of dead children in Salpêtrière.

However the care that Robert Bunon gives to Salpétrière holds him many disillusions on the human nature. He writes: But, the scene changed well quickly in the other rooms filled with older subjects and less pétulante youth… The ones claimed, that misusing the state of the poor, I came to make a clearing of their teeth and to tear off some with ad hoc discretion to find, through experiment, the means of removing some with the rich person, without their making of evil. Others thought that the goal of my visits was to choose subjects suitable to populate the islands and that with the inspection of their mouths I would distinguish the healthiest subjects. What proved it, according to them, was the attention to register their age, their names and nicknames.

Robert Bunon speaks about his discoveries, his care and his drugs in:

  • Essay on a very-pernicious prejudice, concerning the tooth aches which occur with the large women 1741

  • Essay on the diseases of the teeth, where one proposes the means of getting a good conformation to them as of most tender childhood… published in 1743.

  • Then in 1746 is published: Experiments and demonstrations made at the hospital of Salpétrière .

One estimates the works which it published on its art…

In these books, Pierre Fauchard is not always saved, even if it is often rented for his role of precursor of the modern dental surgery. Pierre Fauchard and Robert Bunon is usual of these exchanges of flowers and spines . After its death

Claude Mouton, very friendly of Capperon, the dentist of the King, dentist operating of the Dolphin and Mesdames, then dentist of the King in 1757, inherits the survival of the load of Capperon promised in Robert Bunon.

Its widow outputs in her brother Léonard Georget in June 1748 the remedies of fire her husband, of the Elixirs & opiates. She remains street Saint Avoye, with the corner of the street of Directs . Her husband did not pile up a great fortune. Mesdames helps her widow and had authorizes it to make publicity so that it can market her discoveries and her receipts whose kindness was proven by effects conftants .

Bunon is not the only dental surgeon who made pullers of teeth of the dentist. One should not forget: Bourdet, Courteous, Lécluse, Dubois, Duchemant, Botot, Mahon…
