Robert Aron (May 25th 1898 with the Vésinet - April 19th 1975 with Paris) is a French writer, author of political tests and works historical.

Wire of the manager of a stockbroker, Robert Aron is resulting from an old family of the Jewish middle-class originating in the east of France, it was pupil with the Lycée Condorcet. Mobilized at the end of the First World War, it leaves for the face where, officer, it is wounded in 1918.

Incorporated letters after the war, he does not teach and enters to the editions Gallimard. Secretary during a time of Gaston Gallimard, it also launches out in cinematographic journalism, with the Review of the cinema , and in political journalism, with the foreign service of the Revue of the Two Worlds . Its frequentation of the Surrealist mediums, creation, with Antonin Artaud and Roger Vitrac, of the Theater Alfred Jarry as his interest for the cinema translates its curiosity for the most modernistic expressions and more provocantes of the Avant-garde literary and artistic of the post-war period.

However, somewhat disappointed by its first experiments, its life will take a new course when a fortuitous meeting brings it, in 1927, to find a former school-fellow of the Lycée Condorcet, Arnaud Dandieu. He undertakes with this one a systematic work of philosophical research and policies which will be translated with the beginning of the year 1930 by the publication of three works: Decline of the French nation (1931), American Cancer (1931) and the necessary Revolution (1933). This research constitutes one of the principal theoretical bases on which as from 1930 the group creates for itself the new Ordre, which, with Esprit , constitutes one of the most original demonstrations of the current personalist of the Non-conformistes of the Thirties. In close cooperation with Arnaud Dandieu, then only, after the sudden death of this one in 1933, Robert Aron takes a very active share with all the activities and manifestations of the new Order until the disappearance of the movement in 1938. Thereafter, Robert Aron will continue to attach the activities which will be them his upon this initial engagement.

In 1940, the mobilization stops its leading activities with the NRF (where he writes since 1922). In 1941, it is victim of one of the first operations of collective arrest directed against the Jews and is interned with the camp of Mérignac meadows of Bordeaux. Slackened, it is interdict of stay in Paris and settles with Lyon, where it is mixed, via his friend Jean Rigaut, with the preparations of the American unloading in North Africa. After this one, grace in particular to the assistance which Jean Jardin brings to him, old of the Order New, then principal private secretary of Pierre Laval, it manages to gain Algiers, where it belongs to the first administrative teams of the general Giraud then general de Gaulle. With Lucie Faure and Jean Amrouche, it founds there the review the Nave , of which there will remain one of the organizers until 1952. In 1944-1945, it contributes to the creation of the movement the Federation and will remain until its death an active militant of the French federalistic Movement, collaborating regularly in the monthly magazine the XXe century Fédéraliste and participant in various initiatives in favor of the creation of an European Federation, which lead it to be found at the sides of certain former heads of the New Order, like Alexandre Marc or Denis de Rougemont.

Having begun again after the Release leading activities, in particular with the academic Bookstore Perrin then with the editions Beech, Robert Aron undertakes, as from 1950, an important work of historical research relating to the modern history of France, with, in particular, Histoire of Vichy (1956), Histoire of the Release (1959), Histoire of Purification (1967-1975). In addition, its Agnosticism of the years 1930 having made place on a return to the Jewish faith, Robert Aron goes, after 1945, to devote a big part of its reflection to the religious questions and the Dialog between Jews and Christian.

In 1974, Robert Aron is elected member of the French Academy and it is the day before its reception that he dies suddenly, on April 19th, 1975.
